Countdown to US invasion of Syria begins

This little nugget at CNN World hints at what the US strategy might be as al Qaeda franchise al Nusra close in on Assad.

The usual unnamed sources in the defense establishment claim that the administration will declare al Nusra a terror organization within the next week. They may want to wait a little longer just to allow our al Qaeda enemy to inflict maximum damage to Syria.

Sooner or later it will become front page news that Assad's WMDs are in, or almost in the hands of terrorists. That will be a grave threat to Israel, to NATO ally Turkey, and to the entire free world. All the major networks will have spiffy new "Operation Syrian Salvation" logos backdropping their 24/7 coverage of US special forces heading in to wrestle control of Assad's chemical weapons from the jihadists.

This coming unexpected turn of events will also benefit Obama on the domestic front. All that fuss about the "fiscal cliff" will be forgotten overnight as the public realizes that the fate of the entire free world depends on what America's brave men and women in uniform can accomplish in the next war that they have so reluctantly been dragged into.
