No wonder Vladimir Putin was in tears when he made his acceptance speech.
He'd sat for hours beside the phone waiting for the customary congratulatory phone call from the leader of the free world.
Nothing.
Who can even imagine such rudeness?
What was Obama thinking?
America's free press on the other hand wasted no time springing into action. Not to congratulate Mr. Putin, but to pass along the most egregious claims being made by the opposition. USA Today claimed "massive vote fraud". The New York Times made vague claims of an anti-opposition conspiracy. Apparently the pre-vote publicity favored Mr. Putin.
Such a claim is serious business, except when it happens in our democracy. The election process always favors the incumbent. That's Poly-sci 101.
Meanwhile, less hysterical commentators around the world generally acknowledged that the outcome was more or less representative of the will of the majority of Russian voters. So the opposition will hold a few protests, waving their English language protest signs for the benefit of their American viewers, and wait in vain for a US-sponsored "color revolution".
