Massive police raid bags handful of street-level criminals

Following a seven month investigation involving more than twenty Canadian police forces and the US Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, almost a thousand police this morning staged multiple raids across Canada and took an estimated 60 suspects into custody.

Over twenty police forces.

Almost a thousand cops.

Seven months to investigate.

Sixty suspects? This is a sensible expenditure of tax dollars? And these are obviously hard-core criminals. Look at the charges. Possession of marijuana. Illegal possession of an unregistered firearm.

I'm guessing this massive waste of taxpayers' money won't induce so much as a hick-up into the availability of either marijuana or unregistered guns.

But it makes some sexy headlines at a time when the Harper crew are ramming through the most regressive get-tough-on-crime legislation in a generation.
